A Word from the Teacher
The Class X History of Civilization syllabus is highly condensed, covering just three major chapters: Greeks, Romans, and Islamic Civilization. Because the Annual Exam integrates all three tests, maintaining your notes from the very beginning is crucial.
For your First Periodic Test, you do not have a written exam. It is an Assignment on Greek Civilization (from introduction to the goods and evils of the Tyranny) limited to 100 words. Ensure you allocate your words carefully: 20 words for the introduction, 60 words for the main body, and 20 words for the conclusion to match the marking scheme (2 + 6 + 2).
The Annual Exam relies heavily on Long Answer questions, which constitute 20 out of the 40 marks (4 questions of 5 marks each). Since Chapter 1 (Greeks) and Chapter 3 (Islamic Civilization) carry 15 marks each, expect major essay-type questions to be sourced from these two eras.
How to Excel in History of Civilization
A strategic approach to the periodic tests and final exam structure.
Keep it Concise
Your PT1 Assignment is strictly restricted to 100 words. Focus on density of facts regarding Greek Tyranny rather than long, descriptive prose.
Master Half-Mark MCQs
Both PT2 and PT3, as well as the Annual Exam, rely heavily on 0.5-mark MCQs. Memorize specific names, dates, and terms from the Roman and Islamic chapters.
Focus on Chapters 1 & 3
In the Annual Exam, the Greek and Islamic Civilizations carry 15 marks each, whereas Rome carries only 10 marks. Allocate your revision time accordingly.
Practice Short Answers
The Annual Exam includes 6 Short Answer questions (2 marks each). Practice writing precise, 50-60 word responses focusing directly on the prompt.
Prepare Long Essays
Half of the Annual Exam (20 marks) is based on 5-mark long answers. Prepare detailed outlines for major historical shifts discussed in the textbook.
Secure Internal Marks
Keep your notebook neat and submit your Subject Enrichment activities on time to secure the 5 internal marks (2.5 + 2.5) effortlessly.
