A Word from the Teacher
Psychology at the Class XII level is highly application-based. You will frequently be given case vignettes and asked to diagnose the disorder or suggest the correct therapeutic intervention.
For Unit Test I, pay special attention to the difference between ‘Type’ and ‘Trait’ theories in the Self and Personality chapter (8 marks). In Unit Test II, do not mix up the symptoms of different Psychological Disorders (7 marks). Create a clean flowchart mapping disorders to their respective Therapeutic Approaches (4 marks).
Unit Test III deals with social behavior. The concepts of cognitive dissonance, prejudice, and groupthink are very important here. Since your practical Project/Assignment is based on these chapters, conducting small attitude surveys or group experiments is a great way to prepare.
How to Excel in Psychology
Connect psychological theories directly to real-life behaviors and case studies.
Master the Terminology
Psychology relies on precise terms (e.g., ‘schema’, ‘dissonance’, ‘transference’). Use flashcards to memorize definitions.
Compare Theories
Create comparison tables for different theories of Intelligence (Unit I, 7 marks) and Personality (Unit II, 8 marks).
Map the Disorders
For Unit IV (7 marks), write down the DSM/ICD classification criteria and key symptoms for every major disorder.
Link Therapy to Disorder
Always study Unit IV (Disorders) and Unit V (Therapies) together to understand which therapy treats which condition.
Practice Case Studies
Solve previous years’ case-based questions, especially for ‘Attitude and Social Cognition’ (8 marks).
Align Your Project
Base your mandatory Unit III Project/Assignment on topics like ‘Social Influence’ to deepen your understanding before the test.
