Grading Note:
The syllabus combines these modules to evaluate students out of a total of 50 Marks for the entire academic session. Consult your teacher regarding the exact number of ‘best’ activities/assignments selected for the final tally.
Work Education in Banking and Insurance is arguably the most practical subject in the Class X curriculum. While other subjects focus on academic theory, this syllabus prepares you directly for adulthood and financial independence.
Your evaluation is heavily weighted toward modern digital finance. You must understand the specific differences between NEFT (National Electronic Funds Transfer) and RTGS (Real-Time Gross Settlement). Activity 01 pushes this further by asking you to document the step-by-step process of paying an electricity bill online. Do not copy generic steps; write out the exact process using a UPI or banking portal app you are familiar with.
The second half of the syllabus focuses intensely on Risk Management (Insurance). Be prepared to differentiate between the principles that govern Life Insurance versus those that govern Fire and Marine Insurance. The principle of ‘Indemnity’ (making good a loss), for instance, applies to Marine Insurance but does not apply to human life.
How to Excel in Banking & Insurance
A strategic approach to digital finance and risk management.
Master the Acronyms
Banking is full of abbreviations. Ensure you know the exact full forms of NEFT, RTGS, ATM, and KYC, as these are frequently tested in short assignments.
Understand Cheque Crossings
For Activity 02, physically draw a cheque and demonstrate the difference between a general crossing (two parallel lines) and a restrictive ‘Account Payee Only’ crossing.
Cards: Debit vs. Credit
Be able to clearly articulate the difference between a Debit Card (using your own deposited money) and a Credit Card (borrowing from the bank’s line of credit).
Insurance Principles
For Activity 03, memorize the core principles of insurance: Utmost Good Faith, Insurable Interest, Indemnity, Subrogation, and Contribution.
E-Banking Advantages
When asked about the advantages of E-banking (Assignment 05), structure your answer from two perspectives: advantages to the customer and advantages to the bank.
Marine Insurance Elements
For Assignment 07, understand the specific risks associated with marine transport (perils of the sea) and the types of policies like Voyage, Time, and Mixed policies.
