Physics Periodic Test & Annual Syllabus
Bifurcation of Syllabus of Class X Physics for the session 2026-2027 decided at STS School AMU, Aligarh.
The bifurcation of the Class X Physics syllabus for the academic session 2026-2027 was finalized in a meeting held at STS School AMU, Aligarh on 24.03.2026. The curriculum relies on the newly revised edition of the NCERT Science textbook. It outlines the specific optics and electromagnetism chapters assigned across Three Periodic Tests (06 marks each, reduced to 03) and the comprehensive Annual / Pre-Board Examination (27 marks).

📝 Assignment Structure
The First Periodic Test is strictly Assignment Based. Instead of a written exam, your score will be determined by your practical understanding of optics.
🔬 Ray Diagrams
Expect to draw and submit accurate ray diagrams demonstrating refraction through a glass slab, explicitly labeling incidence, refraction, and emergence angles.
Second Periodic Test

Important Assessment Rules:
- The marking pattern for both the Pre-Board Examination and the final Annual Board Examination remains strictly identical.
- Internal Assessment Contribution: Subject Enrichment marks: 1.5 | Note Book marks: 1.5.
Physics in Class X is highly conceptual and relies heavily on your ability to apply formulas and draw precise diagrams. The syllabus is smartly divided into two major chunks: Optics (Chapters 9 and 10) and Electromagnetism (Chapters 11 and 12).
Your very first evaluation (PT1) is entirely assignment-based. Do not take this lightly! You must demonstrate a clear understanding of focal lengths and refraction angles through practical activities. When drawing the glass slab refraction experiment, ensure you measure the angle of emergence correctly to prove it is parallel to the incident ray. Similarly, in PT3, you are required to plot a V-I graph to verify Ohm’s Law. These graphical and practical skills are foundational.
In the Annual Examination (27 Marks), the highest weightage is equally split between Light (8 marks) and Electricity (8 marks). Interestingly, Chapter 9 (Light) is the only Physics chapter that features a 4-mark Long Answer question. This almost guarantees a multi-part numerical problem involving the mirror or lens formula, combined with a requirement to draw the corresponding ray diagram.
How to Excel in Physics
A strategic approach to numericals, ray diagrams, and core formulas.
Master the Sign Convention
For Chapter 9 (Light), 90% of numerical errors happen due to incorrect signs. Memorize the Cartesian sign convention for both mirrors and lenses before touching the formulas.
Practice Ohm’s Law Graphs
Activity 3 explicitly tests your ability to plot a V-I graph. Practice plotting current on the Y-axis and voltage on the X-axis to calculate resistance accurately from the slope.
Draw Clean Ray Diagrams
Always use a sharp pencil and ruler for ray diagrams. Ensure you draw the directional arrows on the light rays—a diagram without arrows will lose marks immediately.
Target the Long Answer
Chapter 9 is guaranteed to have the 4-mark Long Answer question in the final exam. Practice solving combined numericals that ask for image position, nature, and magnification.
Understand the Eye Defects
For Chapter 10, focus on Myopia and Hypermetropia. Be ready to draw the defective eye, the corrected eye with the proper lens, and state the causes of the defect.
Secure Internal Marks
Your Science Notebook and Subject Enrichment (practicals) account for 1.5 marks each for the Physics section. Maintain a clean, verified practical file.
