A Word from the Teacher
History is a narrative-driven subject that requires understanding the “why” and “how” rather than just memorizing dates.
In Unit Test I, focus intensely on the archaeological evidence of the Harappan Civilisation (7 marks). Questions often revolve around town planning, seals, and the mystery of its decline. For Unit Test II, Chapter 8 on the Mughal agrarian society (7 marks) is crucial. Make sure you understand the roles of Zamindars and peasants during that era.
Unit Test III contains the most significant single chapter in the entire syllabus: Mahatma Gandhi and the National Movement, carrying 8 marks. You must be able to critically analyze the Civil Disobedience movement and the subsequent events leading to independence. Additionally, start your Project Work early, as it will be exclusively drawn from these Modern India themes.
How to Excel in History
Combine active reading of source boxes with chronological mind maps.
Master Map Work
Maps are guaranteed questions. Practice marking major Harappan sites and key centers of the 1857 revolt.
Read Source Boxes
Source-based questions often come directly from the excerpts in your NCERT book. Do not skip them.
Timeline Creation
For Chapters 2, 3, and 4 (600 BCE to 600 CE), create a comparative timeline to understand concurrent political and social changes.
Focus on Keywords
When studying the Bhakti-Sufi traditions (6 marks), memorize the exact terminology used for different sects and practices.
Analyze Perspectives
In Chapter 5, understand the biases and distinct observations of travellers like Al-Biruni, Ibn Battuta, and Bernier.
Prioritize Gandhi
Allocate maximum revision time to Chapter 11 (Mahatma Gandhi) as it carries the highest marks (8 marks) in Unit III.
