Games and Physical Education in Class X is often misunderstood as simply “playing on the field.” However, the AMU syllabus is a brilliant, well-rounded mix of kinesiology, sports rules, and health science. It is designed to build both your physical stamina and your understanding of human biology.
Notice the clear divide: Activities are heavily theoretical. You will need to explain how exercise affects the cardiovascular and muscular systems (Activity 02) and understand the psychological and physical changes during adolescence (Activity 03).
The Assignments shift focus to applied sports and lifestyle choices. Whether it’s the dimensions of a Badminton court, the rules of Kabaddi, or understanding a balanced diet, these are practical life skills. Because the grading system takes your Best 2 out of 3 Activities and Best 3 out of 4 Assignments, you have a massive strategic advantage. Play to your strengths—if you excel at Yoga and Individual Games, focus your energy on perfecting those assignments!
How to Excel in Physical Education
A strategic approach to sports science and game rules.
Master Court Dimensions
For Assignments 04 and 05, you must know the exact measurements of courts/fields for the games you choose (e.g., length of a cricket pitch, height of a volleyball net).
Learn the Biology
For Activity 02, don’t just say “exercise makes you fit.” Use scientific terms: it increases stroke volume, improves lung capacity, and builds muscle hypertrophy.
Yoga Asanas
For Assignment 06, be prepared to list specific Yoga Asanas (like Tadasana or Vajrasana), their benefits, and their contraindications (who shouldn’t do them).
Dietary Considerations
Assignment 07 includes diet. Be able to differentiate between macro-nutrients (carbs, proteins, fats) and micro-nutrients (vitamins, minerals) in a sports diet.
Know the Terminologies
Every sport has specific jargon. Know what ‘LBW’ means in Cricket, what a ‘Smash’ is in Badminton, and what a ‘Raider’ does in Kabaddi.
Adolescent Psychology
For Activity 03, understand both the physical growth spurts and the emotional/cognitive developments that occur during the teenage years.
