- The Annual Examination spans the entire syllabus including Ghazals from Sauda, Zauq, Shad, Fani, Asghar Gondvi, Yass Yegana Changezi and Rubaiyat from Mir Anees, Tilok Chand Mahroom.

A Word from the Teacher
Advance Urdu relies heavily on your understanding of poetic structures, classical prose, and advanced figures of speech (Ilm-e-Bayan).
For your Periodic Tests (20 marks each), the pattern is uniform. You will be asked to explain a prose passage (اقتباس کی وضاحت) for 4 marks and explain poetry verses (اشعار کی تشریح) for 5 marks. Ilm-e-Bayan progresses logically across the tests—starting with Simile/Metaphor (PT1) and moving to Allusion/Hyperbole.
The Annual Examination (80 marks) is comprehensive. Writing skills like Essay writing (مضمون نگاری) carry 10 marks. Topics like ‘Unemployment’ and ‘Aligarh Exhibition’ are explicitly highlighted. You must also be prepared to answer questions on the life and literary style of the authors/poets, which alone secures 7 marks.

Master Ilm-e-Bayan
Know the definitions and classic examples of figures of speech like Tashbeeh, Isti’ara, Kinaya, Tazad, Husn-e-Ta’leel, Talmeeh, and Mubalagha (6 Marks in Annual).
Practice Tashreeh
Poetry explanation (Ghazals, Nazms, Rubaiyat) carries 15 marks (9+6) in the Annual Exam. Always start with the reference to the poet.
Author Biographies
Prepare short notes on the lives and literary styles (طرز کلام) of prominent figures like Manto, Hali, Iqbal, and Syed Ahmad Khan (7 Marks).
Prepare the Essays
Practice writing 200-250 word essays on the prescribed topics: Pollution, Internet, Aligarh Exhibition, Unemployment, and Favorite Personality.
Unseen Passages
10 marks are allocated for Unseen Prose and Poetry comprehension (عبارت فہمی و شعر فہمی). Read diverse Urdu texts to improve your speed.
