👨‍🏫 Teacher’s Insight

A Word from the Teacher

The Class X Civics syllabus focuses heavily on structural political concepts. In the Annual Exam, Civics accounts for exactly 20 marks of your overall Social Science grade.

For your Periodic Tests, you must focus entirely on short answers. PT1 (Power Sharing) is assignment-based. PT2 (Federalism) requires a slightly longer 3-mark answer, while PT3 jumps to Chapter 4 (Political Parties). Notice that Chapter 3 (Gender, Religion and Caste) is completely skipped in the periodic tests.

The Annual Exam ensures all 5 chapters are tested. Chapter 2 (Federalism) and Chapter 4 (Political Parties) are the most critical, carrying 5 marks each. These are the chapters where you will likely encounter the 4-mark Long Answer Questions, which come with an internal choice. Ensure you understand the functional definitions and keywords for all chapters to secure the 6 marks dedicated to Very Short Answers.

Teacher’s Study Plan

How to Excel in Civics

A strategic approach to political definitions and long-form answers.

1

Master the Definitions

The annual paper explicitly sets aside 6 marks for “Keywords/Definitions”. Memorize exact textbook definitions for terms like ‘Majoritarianism’, ‘Federalism’, and ‘Partisan’.

2

Target Chapters 2 & 4

Federalism and Political Parties carry 5 marks each in the Annual Exam. Prepare 4-point long answers for these chapters as they will feature the 4-mark questions.

3

Quick Review of Chapter 3

Chapter 3 (Gender, Religion and Caste) carries only 2 marks in the Annual Exam, tested purely through 1-mark MCQs/VSAs. Do not waste time preparing long essays for it.

4

Ace the PT1 Assignment

Your first test on ‘Power Sharing’ is an assignment. Ensure it is well-structured and neatly presented to secure the full 5 marks early in the year.

5

Utilize Internal Choices

The Long Answer section (4×2=8 marks) offers choices. Always read both options carefully before committing to writing your answer.

6

Secure Internal Marks

Maintain your notebook diligently to secure the 2.5 Note Book marks and 2.5 Subject Enrichment marks without any stress.
