Bifurcation of Syllabus of Class X Life Science (Biology) for the session 2026-2027 decided at STS School AMU, Aligarh.

Subject: Life Science
Session: 2026–27
Class: X

The bifurcation of the Class X Life Science (Biology) syllabus for the academic session 2026-2027 was finalized in a meeting held at STS School AMU, Aligarh on 24.03.2026. The curriculum is strictly based on the prescribed NCERT Science textbook. It outlines the specific biological processes, control systems, reproduction, and genetics chapters across Three Periodic Tests (08 marks each, reduced to 04) and the comprehensive Annual Examination (27 marks).

📝 Exam Structure

This test is completely Assignment Based. It is evaluated out of 08 marks: Nutrition carries 04 marks (VSA), and Respiration carries 04 marks (VSA).

🔬 Practical Focus

You must thoroughly understand the two required activities: making a leaf peel mount to observe stomata, and proving CO2 emission during respiration.

Important Paper Formatting Rules:

  • Number of questions should not exceed 12.
  • All MCQ should be merged in Q.No. 1. Similarly all VSA questions should be merged in Q.No. 2.
  • Long answer type question of 04 marks should be diagram based; however, there should be a choice for the visually challenged students.
  • Internal Assessment: Subject Enrichment marks: 02 | Note Book marks: 02.
👨‍🏫 Teacher’s Insight

A Word from the Teacher

Life Science (Biology) makes up exactly 27 marks of your comprehensive 80-mark Science Annual Examination. It is heavily concept-driven and relies on your ability to combine theoretical knowledge with practical diagrams.

In your Periodic Tests, notice the heavy emphasis on laboratory activities. For PT1, you must be confident in the ‘temporary mount of a leaf peel’ and the ‘respiration CO2’ experiments. For PT3, slide identification for Binary Fission and Budding is directly integrated into the syllabus. These practical activities often translate into direct 2-mark or 3-mark questions in the written exams.

For the Annual Examination, the marking structure dictates that all your MCQs will be bundled into Question 1, and your 1-mark Very Short Answers into Question 2. Most importantly, the syllabus mandates a diagram-based Long Answer question (with alternatives provided for visually challenged students). This means you must practice drawing clean, labelled diagrams of the human digestive system, the heart, and the female reproductive system.

Teacher’s Study Plan

How to Excel in Life Science

A strategic approach to biological processes, activities, and diagrams.

1

Master the Diagrams

The syllabus specifically notes that 4-mark long answer questions should be diagram-based. Practice drawing clear, well-labelled diagrams with an HB pencil.

2

Target ‘Life Processes’

Chapter 05 (Life Processes) carries the highest individual weightage (08 marks) in the Annual Exam. Ensure you cover Nutrition, Respiration, Transportation, and Excretion thoroughly.

3

Review Practical Activities

Activities are explicitly tested. Understand the function of KOH in the respiration experiment and how to identify a dicot embryo’s plumule, radicle, and cotyledons.

4

Group Your MCQs

Since all MCQs are merged into Q1 and VSAs into Q2, prepare by taking quick-fire quizzes. Chapter 13 (Our Environment) is entirely evaluated through four 1-mark VSAs.

5

Understand Heredity

Chapter 08 (Heredity) is the lightest chapter (03 marks). Focus primarily on Mendel’s monohybrid cross and basic genetic definitions.

6

Secure Internal Marks

Your Science Notebook and Subject Enrichment (practicals) account for 02 marks each for the Biology section. Maintain a pristine practical file.
