👨‍🏫 Teacher’s Insight

A Word from the Teacher

The Class X Home Science syllabus focuses on practical life skills, ranging from food hygiene and resource management to child development. The syllabus structure is unique because the units are not taught in strict numerical order.

During your Periodic Tests, you will cover Units II, III, IV, and V in fragments. Note that Unit V (Food Safety) and Unit II (Meal Planning & Fabric Care) are split across multiple tests. Make sure you revise the specific sub-topics assigned to that particular test, rather than studying the whole unit blindly.

In the Annual Exam (80 Marks), an entirely new section is introduced: Unit I (Human Growth & Development). Do not neglect this unit just because it wasn’t in your periodic tests; it carries 10 marks. Additionally, Section A of your final paper will feature 16 marks of 1-mark MCQs drawn comprehensively from all five units.

Teacher’s Study Plan

How to Excel in Home Science

A strategic approach to definitions, standards, and practical concepts.

1

Master the Acronyms

Ensure you know the full forms and specific guidelines provided by organizations like WHO (hygiene), ICMR (food groups), and FSSAI (food safety standards).

2

Memorize Adulterants

For Unit V, you must memorize the specific adulterants listed in the syllabus (Metanil yellow, Argemone, Kesari dal) and their associated harmful effects on the body.

3

Understand Unit I Types

Unit I is newly introduced in the Annual Exam. Clearly differentiate between the types of play (Active, Passive, Natural, Serious, Exploratory) for young children.

4

Fabric Care Nuances

For Unit II (PT3), create a comparison chart for the storage procedures of different fabrics (cotton, silk, wool, synthetics). They each require different handling.

5

Long Answer Formatting

For 4-mark and 6-mark questions, use bullet points. If asked about ‘Factors affecting meal planning’, dedicate a distinct bullet point to Age, Climate, and Occupation.

6

Secure Internal Marks

Internal assessment accounts for 20 marks total (10 from periodic tests, 5 Notebook, 5 Enrichment). Maintain a neat notebook to secure these easy points.
