👨‍🏫 Teacher’s Insight

A Word from the Teacher

Mathematics is about structured, logical problem-solving. The syllabus is smartly divided to balance algebra, geometry, and arithmetic across your three periodic tests, preventing you from being overwhelmed by too many difficult chapters at once.

During your Periodic Tests, you have exactly 1 hour to answer 12 questions worth 20 marks. Time management is critical here. Don’t spend too much time on the 1-mark MCQs; save your time for the 3-mark questions which require proper step-by-step working.

In the Annual Exam (80 Marks), notice the heavy hitters. Four specific chapters carry a maximum of 7 marks each: Triangles, Coordinate Geometry, Introduction to Trigonometry, and Statistics. Combined, these four chapters alone make up 28 marks (over 35% of your paper). Ensure your fundamental concepts in these areas are crystal clear.

Teacher’s Study Plan

How to Excel in Mathematics

A strategic approach to formulas, theorems, and time management.

1

Master the High-Scorers

Target the 7-mark chapters first: Triangles, Coordinate Geometry, Trigonometry, and Statistics. These chapters are guaranteed to feature long-answer questions.

2

Memorize Trigonometry

Trigonometry and its applications account for 12 marks total. Keep a cheat sheet of trigonometric ratios and identities by your study desk.

3

Step-by-Step Working

In Mathematics, marks are awarded for steps, not just the final answer. Always write the formula used and state your assumptions clearly.

4

Practice Statistics Formulas

Statistics (7 marks) relies entirely on remembering the correct formulas for Mean, Median, and Mode of grouped data. Practice drawing accurate tables.

5

Theorem Proofs

Chapters like Triangles and Circles frequently ask for standard theorem proofs. Practice writing these out perfectly from memory.

6

Manage Your Time

For a 1-hour, 20-mark periodic test, aim to finish 1 mark every 2.5 minutes. Leave the last 10 minutes to review your calculations.
