👩‍🏫 Teacher’s Insight

Home Science as a “Work Education” subject goes far beyond simple textbook theory—it evaluates you entirely on your ability to perform essential, daily life skills. The structure is beautifully pragmatic: the Activities (20 Marks) test your fine motor skills and cultural knowledge of textiles, while the Assignments (30 Marks) test your ability to manage a household.

Take Assignment 05, for example. Creating a realistic monthly family budget requires genuine mathematical and economic thought. Similarly, knowing the specific chemical or natural methods to remove tough stains (like turmeric vs. grease) is highly practical chemistry.

The standout is Assignment 07, which focuses entirely on First Aid. Knowing how to manage an electric shock, stop severe bleeding, or handle a snake bite can literally save a life. Treat these assignments not just as homework, but as an essential survival toolkit for adulthood.

Teacher’s Study Plan

How to Excel in Home Science (WE)

A strategic approach to embroideries, budgeting, and first aid.

1

Master the Embroideries

For Activities 01 and 02, ensure your tension is even. Use the correct embroidery thread (floss) and an embroidery hoop to keep the fabric taut to prevent puckering on your Phulkari or Chikankari samples.

2

Adolescent Nutrition

For Assignment 04, a meal plan for an adolescent girl must specifically highlight iron-rich foods (to prevent anemia) and calcium (for bone density). Structure your plan by meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Snack, Dinner.

3

Science of Stain Removal

For Assignment 05, memorize the specific solvent for each stain. You cannot use hot water on a blood stain (it sets the protein), but hot water is required to melt grease.

4

Realistic Budgeting

When drafting your family budget, categorize clearly: Fixed expenses (Rent, School Fees), Variable expenses (Groceries, Electricity), and Savings. Always allocate at least 10% to savings.

5

First Aid Protocols

For Assignment 07, learn the DRSABCD protocol (Danger, Response, Send for help, Airway, Breathing, CPR, Defibrillation). Knowing the immediate action for a snake bite (immobilization) is crucial.

6

Presentation Matters

Whether it’s your embroidery swatches or your salad decoration plan, visual presentation is key. Mount your fabric samples cleanly on thick chart paper in your practical file.
