πŸ‘¨β€πŸ« Teacher’s Insight

A word from the teacher

Mathematics is a subject in which regular written practice matters more than simply reading examples. Students may understand a solution when they see it on the board, but they also need to be able to reproduce the method independently.

For Unit Test I, note that Relations and Functions carries 11 marks, while Inverse Trigonometric Functions and Matrices carry 7 marks each. Students should therefore give adequate practice time to all three chapters while paying attention to the prescribed marks distribution.

For Unit Test II, Continuity and Differentiability carries 11 marks, while Determinants and Applications of Derivatives carry 7 marks each. Do not leave the 2-mark and 4-mark questions until the end. Practise questions of different lengths from the beginning.

The paper pattern shown by A.M.U. includes 3 one-mark questions, 5 two-mark questions and 3 four-mark questions in both Unit Test I and Unit Test II. Students should practise according to this pattern rather than preparing only long questions.

My advice to students: Maintain a separate Mathematics practice notebook. Write the complete steps of every solution and mark questions that you could not solve independently. Revisit those questions after a few days.

Most mistakes in Mathematics happen because of skipped steps, incorrect signs or careless calculations. So, while practising, focus not only on getting the final answer but also on writing the solution clearly and checking each step.

Teacher’s study plan

How to prepare for Mathematics

Regular written practice is the best way to prepare for a Mathematics unit test.

1

Understand the method

Do not memorise a solved example. Understand why each step is used and when the method applies.

2

Practise every day

Solve a few questions every day rather than completing all the practice immediately before the test.

3

Write complete solutions

Show the steps clearly. Avoid jumping from the question directly to the final answer.

4

Practise different marks

Prepare 1-mark, 2-mark and 4-mark questions according to the A.M.U. pattern.

5

Keep a mistake list

Record questions where you made errors and solve them again during revision.

6

Check your work

Check signs, calculations and each step before moving to the next question.
