A word from the teacher
Students should not wait until the Unit Test date is announced before starting their preparation. The English syllabus is spread across Reading, Writing, Flamingo, Poetry and Vistas, so regular preparation is much easier than trying to cover everything at the last moment.
For Unit Test I, give special attention to the three Flamingo prose chapters and the two poems. Do not prepare only the question-answers. Read each chapter carefully and make short notes on the main idea, important events, characters, themes and important lines. For poetry, understand the central idea, poetic devices and the meaning of important lines.
The Writing section carries 6 marks in Unit Test I. Students should practise Notice Writing and Formal/Informal Invitations and Replies instead of simply reading solved examples.
For Unit Test II, begin practising unseen case-based passages along with letter, article and report writing. These questions need regular practice because knowing the format alone is not enough.
A useful approach is to divide the syllabus into small weekly targets: Read → Understand → Make short notes → Practise → Revise.
Teacher’s suggestion: Keep a separate notebook for English. Divide it into four parts—Reading, Writing, Flamingo and Vistas. Write difficult vocabulary, important points, writing formats and mistakes made in practice tests in this notebook. It can become your quick revision notebook before every unit test.
