A word from the teacher
Zoology becomes much easier to revise when students organise the material before they start memorising it. Keep separate notes for definitions, biological processes, examples, diagrams and important terms. This makes revision much faster before a unit test.
For Unit Test I, Human Reproduction carries 4 marks, while Reproductive Health carries 3 marks. Give both topics proper attention, but spend a little more written practice time on the topic carrying 4 marks.
In Unit Test II, the syllabus is divided among three areas: Principles of Inheritance and Variation (Zoology part) carries 3 marks, while Molecular Basis of Inheritance (Zoology part) and Evolution carry 2 marks each.
One useful way to revise these chapters is to make short comparison tables. For example, when two biological terms or processes are easily confused, write their differences in two columns. This is usually easier to revise than reading the same paragraph repeatedly.
My advice to students: Do not prepare Zoology only by reading. After reading a topic, close the book and write down what you remember. Then open the book and check what you missed. This simple recall practice can show you exactly which parts need another revision.
Also pay attention to the wording of the question. In Biology, a question asking for a definition, explanation, difference, process or example may require a different type of answer. Practise writing short, direct answers instead of reproducing an entire textbook paragraph.
Unit Test β III
Assignment
Topics included in the assignment
The AMU syllabus lists four areas under the Unit Test III assignment. The document gives a combined total of 7 marks for the assignment.
Total: 07 Marks01. Human Health & Diseases
Included in the Unit Test III assignment.
02. Biotechnology: Principles & Processes
Included in the Unit Test III assignment.
03. Organisms & Populations
Included in the Unit Test III assignment.
04. Biodiversity & Its Conservation
Included in the Unit Test III assignment.
How to prepare for Zoology
A short and regular revision routine can make Zoology much easier to manage.
Read before memorising
First understand the process or concept. Then learn the terms and details connected with it.
Make short notes
Write brief points for definitions, examples, differences and important facts.
Practise diagrams
Draw important diagrams yourself instead of only looking at them in the textbook.
Use comparison tables
Put similar terms, processes or conditions side by side when they are easy to confuse.
Recall without looking
Close your book and try to explain the topic from memory. Then check your answer.
Revise regularly
Short revision sessions during the week are better than trying to learn everything immediately before the test.
