A word from the teacher
Environmental Science is different from subjects where students can simply memorise a list of facts. Many topics are connected with everyday life, society, development and the natural world. Try to understand the connection between the ideas before learning the details.
The first thing to notice in this syllabus is the 25-mark weightage for each Unit Test. Within each test, the marks are divided quite evenly: 12 + 13 marks in Unit Test I and 13 + 12 marks in Unit Test II. Therefore, students should not leave either unit for later.
When studying Environmental Science, keep a small notebook for definitions, key terms, causes, effects, examples and solutions. This will be much easier to revise than going through several pages of notes just before the test.
Another useful method is to connect every environmental problem with three questions: What is the problem? Why does it happen? What can be done about it? This helps you organise an answer instead of simply trying to remember isolated points.
My advice to students: Do not study Environmental Science only from question-answer material. Read the prescribed material and understand the ideas behind the questions. A student who understands the topic can usually frame a clear answer even when the question is worded differently.
For longer answers, use headings and short points wherever suitable. Keep your answer organised and make sure that each point directly answers the question.
Unit Test β III
Agriculture, Environmental Economics and International Relations
| Unit / Chapter | Topics / Units | Marks |
|---|---|---|
| Unit-V | Sustainable Agriculture Unit Test III | 08 |
| Unit-VI | Environmental and Natural Resource Economics Unit Test III | 09 |
| Unit-VII | International Relations and Environment Unit Test III | 08 |
| Total | 25 | |
πΎ Sustainable Agriculture
Unit-V
08 Marksπ° Environmental and Natural Resource Economics
Unit-VI
09 Marksπ International Relations and Environment
Unit-VII
08 Marksπ Total Weightage
The three units together carry 25 marks in Unit Test III.
How to prepare for Environmental Science
Use a simple method to turn each topic into a set of clear, manageable points.
Understand the topic
Read the topic first and try to understand what it is saying before learning individual points.
Make short notes
Record important definitions, terms, causes, effects, examples and solutions in brief.
Use headings
Organise long answers with suitable headings and short points.
Connect ideas
Ask how human activity, natural resources, development and environmental problems are connected.
Practise answers
Write answers without looking at your notes and then compare them with your study material.
Revise by weightage
Use the marks given in the syllabus to plan how much revision time each unit needs.
