Class XII Fine Arts Unit Test syllabus prescribed by the Directorate of School Education, Aligarh Muslim University.
The Directorate of School Education, A.M.U. has issued the Unit Test-wise syllabus for Class XII Fine Arts (12FA05) for the academic session 2026–27. The curriculum is practical-heavy, assessing students on nature and object study, painting composition, and a final portfolio review.

🎨 Practical Focus
Unit 1 is entirely based on practical execution. You must prepare five distinct exercises focusing on nature and object study.
🖌️ Media Flexibility
The syllabus permits these exercises to be completed in ‘any media’, allowing you to use watercolors, pencils, or pastels.

🖼️ Composition Skills
Unit 2 transitions to painting composition. You need to submit five selected works focused on spatial arrangement and expression.
🎨 Color Requirement
Unlike Unit 1, Unit 2 explicitly requires the compositions to be done ‘in colour’.

Final Assessment: Unit Test III carries 15 marks and is entirely based on your Portfolio assessment and an Assignment. It is critical to maintain all the artworks created during Unit 1 and Unit 2 in a pristine condition for this final evaluation.
A Word from the Teacher
Fine Arts is a subject where consistent, year-round effort is visibly documented. Each unit test carries exactly 15 marks, and unlike theory subjects, your marks are directly tied to the physical artwork you produce during your classes.
For Unit Test I, ensure your five nature and object studies demonstrate a clear understanding of proportion, light, and shadow. Since you can use any media, choose the one you are most confident with. For Unit Test II, the focus shifts to colored painting compositions, which means your understanding of color theory, harmony, and balance will be tested.
Unit Test III is your Portfolio assessment. I always advise my students to invest in a good quality portfolio bag early in the year. Do not wait until the last minute to organize your work. Keep your five object studies and your five colored compositions clean, flat, and well-presented.
How to Excel in Fine Arts
Success in Fine Arts relies on regular practice, proper technique, and excellent presentation.
Consistent Classwork
Your unit tests are based on works “done during the classes”. Do not skip practical sessions.
Master Your Medium
While Unit 1 allows ‘any media’, pick one (like watercolors or charcoal) and perfect it.
Study Color Harmony
Unit 2 strictly requires colored compositions. Practice blending and contrasting colors effectively.
Protect Your Art
Use fixatives for dry media and ensure wet paintings are completely dry before storing them to avoid smudging.
Organize the Portfolio
Your Portfolio Assessment in Unit 3 requires a neat compilation of all your best works. Label them properly.
Seek Feedback
Regularly show your progress to your teacher before selecting the final ‘five works’ for submission.
